ENERGY EFFICIENCY REPORTS FOR RESIDENTIAL HOMES IN VICTORIA

Whether you're building a new home or planning a renovation, you’ll need an energy efficiency report to meet the requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC).

We provide clear, practical assessments to ensure your home meets compliance without overcomplicating the process.

What is an energy efficiency report?

An energy efficiency report confirms that your home meets the minimum thermal performance standards required for building approval in Australia.

It assesses elements such as:

  • Insulation levels
  • Window glazing and orientation
  • Sealing and ventilation
  • Building materials and construction methods

This report is typically required before construction begins, as part of your building approval or CDC/DA process.

Two Ways to Achieve Compliance

1. Deemed to Satisfy (DTS)

A straightforward, rule-based approach.

  • Follows prescribed construction requirements
  • No modelling required
  • Ideal for standard home designs

Compliance is achieved when your plans meet all the specified criteria.

2. NatHERS ASSESSMENT

A flexible, modelling-based approach using tools aligned with NatHERS.

  • Assesses how the home performs as a whole
  • Allows trade-offs (e.g. more glazing offset by better insulation)
  • Typically results in a star rating (e.g. 6–7 stars)

Best suited to custom designs or homes that don’t fit standard construction rules.

WHICH OPTION DO YOU NEED?

Most projects fall into one of these:

  • Standard project home → DTS is often sufficient
  • Custom design or large glazing areas → Performance method is usually more suitable
  • Tight design constraints → Performance method can provide flexibility

We review your plans and recommend the most practical pathway—saving time, cost, and unnecessary redesign.

WHEN IS THE REPORT REQUIRED?

You’ll typically need an energy efficiency report:

  • Before submitting for building approval (CDC or DA)
  • During the design stage (to avoid costly changes later)
  • When plans are updated or modified

Early assessment helps prevent delays and redesign costs.

WHAT DOES THE REPORT COVER?

Your report may include:

  • Building fabric requirements (walls, floors, roof)
  • Glazing and window performance
  • Insulation specifications
  • Compliance summary for approval

We focus on practical outcomes—no unnecessary complexity.
